galapagos/ evolution topic

this term we watched a lot of videos about the Galapagos Islands and how animals that are living there evolve to survive in certain climates. we also wrote 2 essays (the 2nd one is due on Wednesday) and yeah learnt a lot.

I liked the videos we watched. They really helped me understand the meaning of adaptation and the creation of the Islands. I also liked doing work on human evolution and how we how evolved over millions of years till what we are today. My favourite animal on the Galapagos was probably the tortoise. Its really interesting how it got to the Island. Although there are very few left running wild on the Island they are still the main animal. I loved learning the stories of Galapagos and Evolution but next term I would like to learn about different countries.

responsibilities etc

This year I've been elected a Librarian and a House Captain.
I'm still a road patroller (spelling?) but I haven't been put on the roster for a long time.
In the role of a librarian I've helped people find where to get a book and how to get a book out. I've also helped by putting book reviews for people looking for good books to read.
I enjoy doing all the certificates with help us learn more about being a librarian and where books are found throughout the library, but sometimes the questions we have to answer are quite challenging at the same time.

As a House Captian, I organise special days to get together as a house and have a lot of fun. I also get to say the house points Ngatoto earned over the week in assembly.
I really enjoy making everything we do as a house lots of fun and making the little kids happy. I've learnt that collecting house points isn't as glamorous as I thought....

As a Road Patroller, we would go out every morning and afternoon when children and coming/leaving school and have signs that we open and close and stop traffic from running over small children :)
I enojoyed going down early/before the bell rings to get the signs out before the rush of children also getting a yummy hot chocolate from Coralie on a rainy day. what I found challenging is getting up early if your on in the morning.

ASB money management thing

today a man from the ASB getwise thingy came to school (he's been here for the last few days teaching the other classes) and talked to us about how to earn money and how to save money and what not
He talked to us about how to earn money first he gave us some examples like doing some chores around the house or doing neighbourhood jobs or you could also Trade and Sell(e.g.) Lemonade stands, Bake sales, Garage sales.
Then he said stuff about credit cards and eftpos cards and how they work, pins and how to keep your money safe.
I forgot about when he gave us about 10 minutes to think of a new way we could make money with arts and crafts. Olivia, Eva, Mercedes and I said we could recycle pump drink bottles and re-design them with duck tape and sparkles and cool stuff like that. Our name was Deisgn a' bottles
Lastly he told us about a CAT goal! And he gave us something to write in our books about how to save up our money and how long it will take to save the money so we can buy the thing.

1/5/15 mission fair

☼LAST~MISSION~FAIR~EVER☼

Mission fair is always so much fun! I love being with my friends and food.

I was in a group with Eva, Catherine, Olivia, Siena, Kelsey, Tyler, Ethan, Amelia, Charlotte, Grace and I. We had a Carnival theme and our name was the carnival express. We all worked together and everyone was doing something/ no one was left out. Also everyone got time to go on a break and look at other stalls as well as handling our own.

Next time we need to bring lots more bags of fruit burst... we ran out pretty quickly so there weren't any prizes for the throw the ball into the cup game thingy.
