For the past week our main topic has been the ANZAC's and WW1.
I learnt that the war started in 1914 and finished 1918. I liked watching the videos, seeing how the soldiers lived for 4 years in trenches with rats and diseases. I also liked seeing the medals and learning what they were for and who received them.
On ANZAC day- 25th of April. I went to a netball game (Pulse vs Swifts- NZ vs Australia) at the start of the game everyone stood up and were completely silent whilst a guy played the special trumpet sounding and a women said a speech about the war.I also went to the light show at the new national war museum it was really beautiful. It showed clips from the war and an on going slideshow which showed the medals and everything. It lasted about 15 minutes but it was really amazing.
I think its really important we are commemorating the world wars and remembering our soldiers who went and fought. Is good that we know that it wasn't a nice place to be in Gallipoli and lots of men died.
